NFL teams kneeled in unison to make a unifying statement over the past week, but one north Georgia high school football team made an even more resounding statement when they took the field on Friday.

When Fannin County High School’s football team took the field for a home matchup against Greater Atlanta Christian School on Friday, each player carried a large American flag with them. It resulted in a very patriotic display, combining two American symbols: Football and the American flag.

District superintendent Michael Gwatney told WSB-TV the display of patriotism was organized by the players, coaches and team parents. They did it to unify all Americans and honor the military.

“It was an awesome and unifying moment for the audiences on both sides of our stadium and reminded us that no matter what team we support, we are all Americans,” Gwatney said, adding that one of the players has already joined the military, which makes him proud.
