Nearly two decades ago, Donald Trump tried to pick up Brooke Shields with a cheesy pickup line, the model said.
During her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen on Tuesday, Shields said he called her in 1999, “right after he had gotten a divorce” from his second wife, Marla Maples.
“He said, ‘I really think we should date because you’re America’s sweetheart and I’m America’s richest man and the people would love it,'” she continued. Shields politely turned down the offer, saying that she had a boyfriend at the time who probably wouldn’t like the idea. Shields and Trump were acquainted because Trump had made a cameo appearance in the first season of her NBC sitcom “Suddenly Susan.”
It is worth noting that Trump has never been ranked the richest man in America. According to the Los Angeles Times, Bill Gates topped Forbes rankings in 1999 with $85 Billion, while Warren Buffett came in second. Forbes rated Trump the 146th wealthiest person in America that year with a net worth of $1.6 billion, noting at the time that “He estimates his own net worth [at] ($4.5 billion). But no matter how hard we try, we just can’t prove it.”
