The charges for a hoax hate crime against Jussie Smollett have been dropped. As a result, the Chicago Police Superintendent has announced that he is furious.

According to Fox News:

Calling himself a man of faith, “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett said Tuesday that he felt vindicated after the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office said it would drop all charges against him in an alleged hate crime hoax.

...

Fox News has learned the judge on Tuesday granted a nolle pros, which essentially means that the case has been dropped and that Smollett will no longer be prosecuted for the alleged crime.

The police superintendent is reportedly not happy according to another Fox News article:

After charges were dropped against "Empire" star Jussie Smollett for allegedly staging his own hate crime, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson is reportedly "furious" with the outcome.

A rep for the Chicago Police told Fox News that Johnson and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will hold a joint press conference Tuesday afternoon about the case.

It remains unclear why the prosecutors decided to drop the charges. Johnson held a joint press conference with Rahm Emanuel since the Fox News article was published. Both men expressed their extreme displeasure with the handling of the case.
