Conservative Twitter Turns on Trump

Liberals might be wearily hopeful about Donald Trump’s sudden bipartisanship, but much of the president’s base is angry after Congressional democrats announced Wednesday the closing in on a deal to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and border security.

Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi released a bombshell statement Wednesday night after a dinner meeting with the president, saying, “We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides.”

Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to clarify that the wall “will continue to be built,” and that construction has already begun in the form of renovations to existing fencing along the border of the United States and Mexico.

That reassurance hasn’t been enough for the base of the GOP, however, especially as Trump told reporters Thursday “the wall will come later.” The promise of a border wall was a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign.
