Lucasfilm Announces Title of Next ‘Star Wars’ Movie—See What it Is

The seventh episode in the “Star Wars” saga is called “The Last Jedi,” Lucasfilm announced Monday.

“It’s official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December,” the official Twitter site for Star Wars tweeted.

Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the films reportedly finished shooting before she suffered a heart attack last month on a plane from London to Los Angeles. She died several days later at UCLA Medical Center.

After her death, Lucasfilm squashed rumors that it was attempting to get the rights to Fisher’s digital image for possible use in upcoming films and or merchandise.

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address,” the statement read. “We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa. Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family.”
