“Today” host Matt Lauer surprised his former co-star Katie Couric at a Manhattan eatery.
Sources told Page Six that Lauer was at Fresco by Scotto with a party of 10, including “Today” colleague Al Roker and NBC News correspondent Keir Simmons, when he noticed Couric coincidently arrived.
“In the middle of the dinner, Matt noticed Katie walk into the restaurant with a friend, but Katie sat at her table and didn’t notice the ‘Today’ folks.”
Our spy added that Lauer then “jumped up from his seat and ran to the bar. He picked up two glasses of wine and brought them over to Katie’s table . . . He pretended to be their waiter. It was hysterical.” But another source said Lauer, who makes $20 million a year, simply started chatting with Couric. (Guess he didn’t need the tip!)
Couric then headed over to greet the NBC staffers.
