While visiting several schools in Miami, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos met with a unique voice in Florida education -- Armando Christian Perez, more commonly known as the rapper Pitbull.
After visiting CARE Elementary school and Florida International University, DeVos went to SLAM Charter School, which serves 6th through 12th grade students seeking careers in the Sports Leadership and Management industries, according to its website.
Pitbull, also known as Mr. Worldwide, entered the charter school business when he opened SLAM in 2013, telling NPR at the time that the sports theme of the school is a way to engage kids who might think school is boring.
"If sports is what you love, one way or another, it's a business you can get involved with ... whether you're a therapist, an attorney, a broadcaster," he told NPR in 2013. "They're already labeling me 'Mr. Education.'"
