This TV Host Tried to Talk Trump Out of Running For President

Back in 2006, Kelly Ripa tried to convince Donald Trump not to run for president.

The perky daytime queen revealed that when Trump, 71, co-hosted “Live with Kelly” in 2006, he was “great as a co-host” and that he’d boasted, “‘This is going to be the biggest-rated show you ever had in your life.’” He also told her at the time that his career aspirations extended far beyond talk shows.

“You know what’s crazy, he was talking about running for president then,” she said on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Wednesday. “Then! And I remember actively having this conversation with him. He said, ‘Everybody wants me to run for president,’ and I said, ‘Who?!’”

Ripa, 46, said Trump told her that he’d been courted by “everybody” because of his successful business ventures, but she attempted to sway him away from the idea in favor of embracing his lavish lifestyle. “I said, ‘But why would you want to do that? Why would you want to give up your life, which is so good? You’re not going to be able to go to Florida anymore. You’re not going to be able to golf every weekend,’” she recalled. “And I was wrong! You can do that!”
