As the world continues to adjust to Trump’s America, the question remains: How the hell did we get here? Enter quasi-political analyst for the night Trevor Noah, who was faced with that very query by Van Jones during an interview on CNN Wednesday night.
All usual jokes aside, Noah arrived at the same conclusion that most comedians do: Trump’s just one of them.
“When I see Trump, I see a stand-up comedian. He connects with audiences in the same way,” he explains. “He knows how to make you laugh in a moment when you didn’t think you would. He knows how to broach a topic in a way that no one normally can.”
Noah said he first noticed Trump’s comic appeal during the debates, when Trump would make a half-baked or ineloquent joke and still get genuine laughter from crowds. That, Noah says, is when we all should’ve been very, very afraid. “What’s scary is that it’s that easy to become presidential.”
