CNN host Kate Bolduan scolded Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) during their interview Wednesday for discussing gun control measures in the wake of Wednesday's mass shooting in Alexandria, Va.
A gunman shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.), two Capitol Hill police officers, and a congressional aide Wednesday morning while Scalise and other Republican congressmen were practicing for a charity baseball game. McAuliffe praised the response of law enforcement to the shooting, saying it was another "sad situation" and that his top job was to keep the state's citizens safe.
"We have got to do a better job … This gentleman who started shooting at a ball field where people were having practice for a charity event; obviously, this man should never have been in possession of a firearm," he said. "We as a nation and all of us need to come together in a bipartisan way to stop the horrible gun violence we have. Ninety-three individuals a day are killed in America."
McAuliffe, a strong proponent of gun control, added he recently had to give the eulogy for a slain police officer before Bolduan cut over him.
"We can hold the conversation about the gun control debate for just another moment, because I do want to ask you just about the immediate breaking news situation we are dealing with," Bolduan said.
