Carrie Underwood Makes Triumphant Return in First Performance After Grisly Injury

Carrie Underwood can cry pretty indeed.

Underwood, 35, took the stage at the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday, where she performed her new single, “Cry Pretty.” After her rousing rendition of the song, Underwood got teary onstage as the audience gave her a nearly minute-long standing ovation.

Later, when she accepted the trophy for Vocal Event of the Year for her duet with Keith Urban, “The Fighter,” a tearful Underwood told the audience, “I’m still kind of shaky right now!”

It was the “American Idol” alum’s first public appearance since getting 40 stitches in her faceafter taking a nasty tumble in November. She also broke her wrist in the incident.
