ABC execs are inches away from greenlighting a second reboot of Roseanne after connecting with Tom Werner, who produced the sitcom through his company Carsey-Werner, over the weekend to kick negotiations into high gear.
Sources familiar with the situation told TMZ that Werner spoke with top network suits to move forward with a Roseanne spinoff without its leading lady and reluctant Ambien spokesperson, Roseanne Barr.
Insiders say the network is working out last-minute details, which mostly revolve around Roseanne. While the network had a solid cause to fire the comedian as both the star and executive producer, it might be contractually obligated to pay her a fee or back end for her involvement in creating the show.
Of course, ABC could always argue it's a different show entirely. The potential spinoff has been speculated to focus on Sara Gilbert's character, Darlene. (Or, even better, Laurie Metcalf's Jackie!!!)
