Ben Affleck Accuses GOP Of Trying to Incentivize ‘Party Extremists’ Through Gerrymandering

Academy Award winner Ben Affleck alleged that Republican politicians are trying to “dodge the consequences for their actions” through gerrymandering.

“The Last Duel” star appeared at a virtual fundraiser on Tuesday along with fellow liberal “Black-ish” leading lady Tracee Ellis Ross, and Obama era Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Attorney General Eric Holder.

He said the practice of changing voting district boundaries after a census “leads to hyper partisan politics where special interests rule and party extremists are incentivized instead of common sense and finding common ground and compromise, and a lot of this we’re seeing in our country today.”

Affleck accused GOP politicians of trying to “dodge the consequences for their actions,” by gerrymandering, which he believes can cause “very serious consequences for our democracy.”

He noted that one political party overwhelming the other “leads to a sense of voters not feeling like their vote counts, and in some cases they may well be justified in that feeling.”

Clinton concurred that “it’s time that we end partisan gerrymandering and do everything we can to return to what we thought was the principle of one person, one vote.”

“Of course politics is about power,” the former presidential candidate went on. “I mean, that kind of goes without saying. But this is unaccountable power. This is power with no recourse. This is power where a small minority gets to decide whether the issues you care about will ever get a hearing, get to decide whose votes count and whose votes don’t count.”

Affleck, who has previously indicated he would be interested in doing the “noble” thing and entering “public service” one day, joked that former President Donald Trump going into politics suddenly made him “qualified to run for president.”

The liberal actor praised Clinton as an “extraordinary person” and a “wonderful role model” during his speech.

“I hope somebody recorded that introduction,” Clinton remarked. “Because you know, when days are hard, I’m just gonna listen to it again.”

Here in western Colorado, they just gerrymandered Lauren Boebert out of her district, and if you look at it from a birdseye view, it’s so obvious! How do they get away with their antics?
