A 6-year-old Connecticut boy, who was critically burned when his 8-year-old neighbor threw a flaming gasoline soaked tennis ball at his face, will be confined to bed for months as he recovers.

Dominick Krankall, 6, has third degree burns on his face and legs after a vicious attack by an unnamed 8-year-old who was part of a group of children seen playing with gasoline and lighting things on fire.

“The kid covered a ball in gasoline, lit it on fire, and threw it at him. All in the matter of SECONDS,” his sister Kayla Deegan wrote on a GoFundMe page. “He’s going to be scarred for life mentally and physically.”

The attack was not the first time the boy bullied Krankall into the hospital, but according to his sister, the boy’s mother “thinks he is innocent,” and the family “thinks it’s a joke.”

Dominick, whose lips are so swollen that he can barely speak, begged his mother not to take him home where he could be hurt again.

“It’s heartbreaking, it’s sickening to know the family. There’s nothing being done about this,” his sister said in an interview. “This needs to be seen everywhere so everyone knows Dom’s story and what he had to go through, and the extent it went to for someone to hopefully do something.”

The family is seeking to raise donations through a GoFundMe page that will go towards Dominick’s medical bills from the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital and the purchase of a new home.

Deegan reported that Dominick was able to get a few bites of food past his extremely swollen lips on Wednesday, and was sipping soup out of a straw as his main source of sustenance.

“Dominick is such a happy go lucky boy and EVERYONE was his friend, no matter what. All he ever wanted to do was ride his bike, play basketball, and go fishing,” she wrote. “Now he has to lay in bed for MONTHS until he’s even able to walk outside again. It breaks my heart over and over again. My poor baby is in pain everyday and there isn’t much we can do.”

At the time of reporting, the GoFundMe page had raised $270,000, far above the original $50,000 goal.
