Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are catching flak from fans for a tone-deaf social media post that proved celebrities really aren’t like the rest of us.
Rodriguez posted a photo of the couple’s pooch Lady with her head in his lap, while Lopez cozily lounged atop a $1,550 Hermes throw on her phone in the background.
The pair was traveling home to New York City with their family aboard a lux private jet on Monday when Rodriguez wrote: “Lady is definitely ready for #Thanksgiving! We have so much to be grateful for and are excited to be heading home to spend time with family.”
Perhaps he should have left the caption at that, because when he asked his 3.9 million followers what their holiday plans were, the backlash was instant.
“None. We cancelled all of them. We’re in the middle of a Pandemic,” a follower replied. “Not having anyone over doing our part to not gather with family. Doing our part to try and be the solution not the problem,” said another.
Despite the CDC’s recent travel warning, the Rodriguez-Lopez clan were part of the three million people who traveled over the weekend. One fan was shocked A-Rod would make such a post when others are sacrificing.
“Really? The CDC has recommended that no one travel for thanksgiving. And doctors are pleading with us to keep thanksgiving with just our immediate household for one year,” Rodriguez’s follower commented. “I am surprised to see someone with a platform like yours posting this. It is hard for those of us who are sacrificing this year to see this.”
Others focused on the blatant display of wealth. “Must be nice to travel. Most of us don’t have that luxury,” a Instagrammer remarked. “Looks nice. I usually board with group 8,” another snarked.
Another pointed out the post was “just a touch tone deaf during a global pandemic and 60 million unemployed. But do you boo.”
“People lost their jobs.. maybe stop posting your private jet,” said a follower. “We get it.. You’re rich.”
