Amanda Bynes has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold by the Los Angeles Police Department after she was found completely naked on the streets of California. Police responded to a call on Sunday morning to find Bynes, aged 36, standing unclothed on the corner of Vermont Avenue and 4th Street in Los Angeles. The LAPD has confirmed that Bynes was found to be “suffering from mental illness”, and as a result of statements she made, was taken into custody under a psychiatric hold.

Although the LAPD could not disclose the nature of the statements, it has been confirmed that Bynes was taken to the hospital. A psychiatric hold is typically for 72 hours, but it can be extended as necessary. Bynes’ family attorney has yet to respond to the news.

Amanda Bynes has faced multiple legal issues throughout her career. In 2012, Bynes was taken into custody for driving under the influence (DUI) after an alleged accident involving a police car. Later, she admitted no contest to the charges, receiving probation as punishment. The same year, Bynes faced two counts of hit-and-run accusations. She pled no contest to one charge. In 2013, Bynes was arrested for endangerment, drug possession, and tampering with evidence when she reportedly threw a bong from her New York apartment window. However, the charges were later dismissed. In 2014, Bynes was pulled over and arrested for DUI again, but pleaded no contest to the lesser charge of reckless driving. Additionally, that year she was accused of shoplifting from a department store, but no charges were filed. These incidents, along with others, led to Bynes’ conservatorship, which continued from 2013 until 2022.

The news of Bynes’ psychiatric hold comes after she missed the 90s Con event in Hartford, Connecticut over the weekend. Bynes’ former co-stars on “All That,” Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, shared an emotional message expressing their concern over Bynes’ absence. Mitchell revealed that he has been praying for her, while Thompson said they were “continuing to pray for her on her journey.” Bynes’ appearance at the media convention would have been her first public appearance since her eight-year conservatorship ended in March 2022.
