Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt go to war Over Divorce Judge

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s high-profile divorce case has been held up again after Jolie filed court papers to disqualify the presiding judge on their case.  

According to court documents, Jolie is concerned “that something untoward is happening,” after her attorney discovered that the private judge supervising their divorce proceedings failed to disclose that he has worked on numerous cases with Pitt’s lawyer in recent years.  

Pitt and Jolie are already legally divorced, but have pending custody and financial issues that are being decided with the help of Judge John W. Ouderkirk, a private judge they jointly hired to oversee their case.

Jolie’s lawyer asserted that the stream of income and potential for future work between Ouderkirk and Pitt’s attorney “Are precisely the type of repeat customer circumstances that create doubts about a privately-compensated private judge’s ability to remain impartial.”

Pitt’s legal team fired back that the move was a “Thinly veiled attempt by Jolie to delay the adjudication of long-pending custody issues in the case.”  

The court papers also alleged that Jolie knew about Ouderkirk’s additional engagements with Pitt’s lawyer, which were disclosed and not objected to by Jolie prior to this instance. The filing also stated that he has served as a judge on matters for her attorneys as well.  

Pitt’s lawyer pointed out that Jolie hand selected Ouderkirk to preside over her nuptials to Pitt in 2014. The counter filing states that the couple’s children are “the individuals hurt most by Jolie’s transparently tactical gambit,” which is preventing a judgement on their custody issues.
