Andrew Gruel, the founder and CEO of Huntington Beach seafood franchise Slapfish, blew up on Twitter over how California’s increasingly draconian lockdown orders are crushing small businesses.
Do as I say, not as I do
Gruel’s rant kicked off Wednesday morning when he witnessed a government brunch meeting. “Shutting down small businesses right ahead of the holidays, with no relief, while the rulers break their own mandates is not going to end well,” he tweeted.

He retweeted a post about how LA restaurants were forced to cut outdoor dining service, but Jimmy Kimmel’s show is considered essential enough to shoot indoors with a studio audience.

Walmart
When criticized for his commentary on pandemic restrictions, Gruel replied that he didn’t understand why people can fly on planes and shop at “indoor Petri dishes like Walmart,” but were not allowed to dine outdoors.

The Video
He shot a viral video explaining that big businesses like Amazon and Target were thriving, but the restaurants that have invested in equipment to meet the new mandates were being forced to shut down without evidence that proves outdoor dining is contributing to rising COVID cases.
