Country legend Bill Mack died of health complications from Covid-19 at the age of 91.
The Texas Country Music Hall of Famer’s passing was announced by his son, Bill Mack III, on Twitter Wednesday morning. “I’m deeply saddened to tell you that my Dad passed away early this morning due to COVID-19 with underlying conditions.” He went on to describe Mack as “An amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband to my mom. I’m blessed to have had not only a great dad but my best friend as well.”

For years, Bill Mack was known as on-air host of the late-night radio show, Country Roads, and nationally syndicated music show, Country Crossroads, both geared towards country music loving truck drivers.
He also had a successful decades long career as songwriter, writing hits for Dean Martin, George Strait, and Cal Smith. In 1997 he won a Grammy for Best Country Song with LeAnn Rimes “Blue.”
Mack is survived by his wife, four children, and many grandchildren.

We had a quartet that did some studio background voice work for Bill Mack many years ago. He was very congenial and easy to work with regardless of his success. It was always time enjoyed working with him. I still see him on Country Family Reunion with “Whispering” Bill Anderson
My husband and I seemed to travel at night a lot of years ago and this was one of my favorite radio programs. I loved his voice and the whole show.

Will every death of our elderly be blamed on COVID-19? It was old age that probably allowed this man to get this virus. When I think of the age of 91 years I see a miracle. I was told I will be blessed to even reach 80. How many people can brag of reaching 80, 90, and even 100. If you reach 100 it becomes national news. What do those over 80 have in common? They are getting older. One hundred years ago more people were dying of old age, until science learned about all the different forms of CANCER. Now we are told they die of CANCER. Old age is becoming “old school” when we learn a scientific name for cause of death.
