That 70’s Show star Danny Masterson, 45, wants more time for his defense and cites Leah Remini’s involvement in his rape case as the cause.
The actor filed court papers in Los Angeles this week requesting an extension before his trial begins. He alleges that Remini’s public crusade against The Church of Scientology has crossed into his case.
Remini has been a thorn in the side of the church she was raised in, since quitting and writing a tell-all memoir that launched her TLC show Escaping Scientology. Masterson is a member of the church.
He says that the former King of Queens star urged all three of his accusers to file police reports and that two of them did so only after Remini’s insistence. He also claims she helped the women through their statements to prosecutors, who he accused of being “star-struck” by Remini’s celebrity.
He also accused her of having close ties to the Los Angeles Police Department detectives, noting that she “even using them as her personal security.” Masterson’s lawyer accused the LAPD of leaking information about his case to the media.
The actor, who had to leave his Netflix hit The Ranch amid the accusations, was arrested in June of 2020. Masterson was charged with the rape of two 23-year-old women and 28-year old women in separate occurrences at his Hollywood Hills home in 2001 and 2003.
He pleaded not guilty and will face up to 45-years in prison if convicted of the charges.
