Is Jake Tapper About To Lose His Job?

CNN CEO Chris Licht has ambitions of making Jake Tapper the main anchor for CNN’s rebranding efforts. After poor ratings on his new primetime show, those ambitions already appear to be coming to an end. Following the Midterm elections, Jake Tapper will be returning to his daytime lineup role following poor viewership and ratings. Throughout the primetime show’s short run, which started on Oct. 11, Tapper did not manage to break one million views – even with a star-studded lineup of interviews including President Biden and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Tapper only averaged 854,000 viewers, well below the average of other primetime major news anchors.

Fox News Reports:

“As part of a special lineup, Jake agreed to anchor the 9p hour through the midterm elections,”

A spokesperson for CNN told Fox News Digital. Adding,

“At the completion of that schedule, he’ll be returning to his award-winning program ‘The Lead.’ We will announce post-election plans for that time slot in the coming days.”

Chris Licht, the new CNN honcho, reportedly wanted Tapper to be the “new face” of the network as the CEO has been vocal about his efforts to steer CNN towards nonpartisanship after years of hyper-liberal coverage during the Trump years.

Semafor was first to report that Tapper was returning to daytime.

While Tapper was never as bombastic as his colleagues like Don Lemon and Brianna Keilar, he was arguably just as partisan and maintained his GOP bashing in primetime.

“Unhinged lies born from Donald Trump’s grievance that he lost and his refusal to accept reality… this anti-democracy insanity — it has already infiltrated the same halls of Capitol Hill where the rioters once stood… all of this leaves you, the voter, in sort of an impossible position. You should be able to walk into that voting booth and vote on issues that affect your life like the economy or crime or education or health care. But now, in too many races, instead of asking yourself, ‘What can this candidate do for me and my community and my children in the next two years?’ You now also have to ask, ‘Hey, does this candidate believe in democracy?’”

Tapper said in his second primetime broadcast while lambasting “election deniers” running for office.

Jake Tapper wasn’t the guy for the job when it came down to rebranding CNN as a more middle-of-the-road news organization. Tapper was a thorn in the side of Donald Trump throughout his entire Presidency, typically for political reasons as opposed to non-biased reporting. Despite the well-planned rollout to get Jake Tapper to become a primetime news anchor, even President Biden and Hollywood celebrities couldn’t make it work. Now, like Don Lemon, Tapper will be drinking coffee in the morning on CNN’s morning news.
