“Cheers” star Kirstie Alley has sparked a Twitter frenzy after speaking out against the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ new set of rules for films to be award-eligible for the Best Picture category. The new rules are meant to increase inclusivity and promote diversity in the film industry but Kirstie Alley calls them, “dictatorial…anti-artist.”
I’ve been in the motion picture Academy for 40 years. The Academy celebrates freedom of UNBRIDLED artistry expressed through movies. The new RULES to qualify for “best picture” are dictatorial .. anti-artist..Hollywood you’re swinging so far left you’re bumping into your own ass

In a since-deleted Tweet, Alley added, “This is a disgrace to artists everywhere…can you imagine telling Picasso what had to be in his fucking paintings. You people have lost your minds. Control artists, control individual thought .. OSCAR ORWELL”
The new rules released in a statement Tuesday comes ahead of the fifth anniversary of the #Oscarssowhite controversy, the movement that called out Tinseltown’s film industry for underrepresenting minorities.
Plenty of haters came out of the woodwork to express outrage and criticism that a celebrity would dare share an opinion that directly contrasts to the far-Left views voiced by the majority of Hollywood but Alley is not backing down.
I don’t feel a desperate need to defend myself, but sometimes it’s important to go on record with your own history. Especially since people aren’t aware of our track records. Understanding is my goal. Understanding leads to change.

The truth is most of these people disding me, followed me and RT’d me until they found out I voted for Trump .. the price you pay from those who profess tolerance inclusion & diversity. Not ironic, just the way it is.

Alley was quick to clarify that she believes that, “Diversity and inclusion should be taught, taught so well and so naturally and genuinely that it becomes second nature to our children.”
I deleted my first tweet about the new rules for best movie OSCARS because I feel it was a poor analogy & misrepresented my viewpoint. I am 100% behind diversity inclusion & tolerance. I’m opposed to MANDATED ARBITRARY percentages relating to hiring human beings in any business.

With the Oscars viewership declining in recent years it will be interesting if these Affirmative Action criteria will help boost those numbers or drive people away completely.
Can’t remember the last time I watched an Awards show. All the movies lately are just bad remakes anyway. And the movies that I saw in the theater years ago, were mostly just profanities every other word. I can’t believe people actually got paid good money for “writing” them.
I love Kirstie Alley before & even more now!! You Rock Lady!!
