Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey blasted the “far Left” for being condescending towards the “other 50%” of Americans that make up the Right.
McConaughey guested on British comedian Russel Brand’s podcast “Under the Skin,” and discussed his “hope” that Americans on both sides of the political spectrum could come together in the center.
“I’ll meet you in the middle, I actually think that is more of a dare right now than it’s ever been,” he commented. A solid roadblock for Americans becoming more politically centric, he conceded, is far left Democrats arrogant attitudes towards the right.
“Look, on the other side, on the far Left… There is a lot on that illiberal Left that absolutely condescend, patronize, or are arrogant towards that other 50%,” he remarked.
He pointed towards Hollywood as a leader in liberal hypocrisy, because the leftists who are insulting conservatives for questioning the 2020 election results, were the same people that refused to accept Trump’s 2016 win.
“Many people who are in – I’m sure you saw it – in our industry, when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that it was real, and some of them were in absolute denial.”
He understands conservative’s hesitance to accept the election results because of the media. It looks like Biden’s our guy… Now you’ve got the right that’s in denial,” he said. “And I understand, they’ve been fed fake news. No one knows who the hell to believe, right?”
McConaughey went on to discuss how he thinks Democrats are sending the wrong message to conservative voters. “This is where the Left misses it for me, just as far as being a marketer of a political side,” he began.
“When you say, ‘Hey, we want to get out the vote; we want people to be able to go vote; we’re going to do a campaign to let people vote.’ I’m like, 100%. Yes, everyone. Is there anyone who would say no to that? That’s universal. You have 100% of the audience going, ‘I’m in, that’s a constitutional right as an American, I’m in, yes!’” McConaughey exclaimed.
But according to the actor, the illiberal left can’t resist tacking on a jab that alienates the other half of Americans. “And then they can’t help themselves. At the very end of it, they go, ‘So we don’t let those criminal b***ards get back in office.’ You’re going, ‘Whoa!’ You’re like, no, don’t say the last part. You lost 50% of your audience,” he went on. “And that’s, you know, part of why so much of the nation, of that 50%, looks at us in Hollywood, as like, going, ‘Oh, yeah, another celebrity over there, and the West Coasters, and the elite in the Northeast.’”
“Because even from just a sales point of view, don’t tab that ‘gotcha’ on the end… And then your audience is twice as big, and you’re getting what you want… You’re getting two times as much as you would if you didn’t tab on that little stick it to them at the end.”
