Republicans Bash Meghan Markle For Inserting Herself Into American Politics

The Duchess of Sussex took heat from the American GOP for speaking out after SCOTUS’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. 

In a joint Vogue interview with Gloria Steinem, Markle called on men “to be vocal in this moment and beyond,” and commented that she and Steinem would have to take a trip to Washington D.C. together to put pressure on the White House and Congress to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. 

“These are decisions that affect relationships, families, and communities at large, they may target women, but the consequences impact all of us,” she asserted. “My husband and I talked about that a lot over the past few days. He’s a feminist too, his reaction last week was guttural, like mine.”

Markle said that she called Steinem “immediately” after the Supreme Court’s decision, because she reminded her to channel her anger into “something that makes a difference.”

“What does this tell women? It tells us that our physical safety doesn’t matter, and as a result that we don’t matter,” the British royal concluded. “But we do. Women matter.”

Republican lawmakers were not thrilled that the Duchess of Sussex continues to meddle in American politics, after she was scorned for “trading in on her royal title” to lobby US senators to include paid parental leave in Biden’s spending bill last November.  

“This is just another attempt from the ex-royals to insert their British drama in American politics,” Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) told the Daily Mail. “I don’t think anyone on this side of the pond cares for Meghan Markle’s opinion on killing babies. However, I think her running for President would be a great episode for The Crown.”

“I think Americans made it pretty clear in 1776 that they don’t want members of the British Royal Family making decisions for them,” added Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA).
