The ‘Rolling Stones’ have now reportedly been forced to quietly shelve one of these most iconic hits, ‘Brown Sugar’ over concerns about its allegedly racially charged content.
As The New York Post reports:
The Stones have not played the 1971 hit “Brown Sugar” on their current tour and said the blues classic has been removed from their setlist.
“You picked up on that, huh?,” Keith Richards, 77, responded to the LA Times when asked if the Stones had cut the second-most-performed tune in their catalog amid a climate of heightened cultural sensitivity.
“I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out with the sisters quite where the beef is. Didn’t they understand this was a song about the horrors of slavery? But they’re trying to bury it.”
The first verse of the hit song depicts slaves being sold and beaten in Louisiana, with references to a “slaver” who whips “women just around midnight.”
Should the Stones’ have retired the song, or is this just another example of cancel culture run amok? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
Come on…some people need to get a life… this is beyond woke…
Everything is racially charged if someone wants it to be. Turning the tables, White Christmas may be next.
It already is!!! That was brought up last year, but, how in this world are you going to change a white Christmas, since snow comes from the heavens, of which we have no control & it can’t be racially slurred & smeared. I’m not understanding how anyone can just decide to remove a song, fire someone, etc.,etc.,etc. with no court orders or no breaking our Constitution. Why can’t the other side fight back?? We are NOW seeing some fight back, like Southwest Airlines & telling the truth as to why thousands of flights are being cancelled. The reason is pilots & air traffic controllers are walking out & saying “shove your shit” we are not getting vaccinated.
