Former President Donald Trump targeted “Real Time” host Bill Maher for commenting that the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago was “saving Trump politically,” and went after Fox News for covering it.
“Every time low ratings dummy Bill Maher has anything nasty to say about your favorite President, me, Fox finds a way to put him on, usually sandwiched in between really bad anti-Trump ads,” he posted on his TruthSocial page on Saturday.
“Maher is a loser, and MAGA gets it – but Fox doesn’t. He said I was fortunate to have my home broken into because it was good for my polls,” he continued. “Wrong, it was an assault on liberty, and very bad for our Country, which is incredibly angry right now…And no, I was, and am, leading everybody in the POLLS – BY A LOT!!!”
In an Aug. 12 episode, Maher said the legitimacy of the FBI raid “comes down to what is in these boxes,” and if they do not produce the any violations of the “Espionage Act,” Trump supporters will have a lot of questions “about the different standards applied to Donald Trump that hasn’t been applied to Hillary Clinton, to James Comey, to Hunter Biden and the others.”
He also claimed that because of the raid, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won’t stand a chance against Trump if either of them choose to run in 2024. “His fortune was finally falling. The Big Lie was finally losing momentum. DeSantis was beating him in the polls — you know who hates this more than anybody? DeSantis,” the HBO host continued.
“‘I had this in the bag, and now I gotta run against President Martyr,'” Maher said in an impression of DeSantis. “And this is saving Trump politically because now, of course, all the Republicans — what do they do?”
The “Real Time” host gave a backhanded compliment to Trump for how the candidates he endorsed did in the GOP primaries in his latest episode.
“Eighty-five percent of the people Trump endorsed won: 151 out of 178,” Maher commented. “Say what you want about Mr. Evil, but boy, what a politician. I mean, that’s impressive — in an evil way, but still, impressive.”
