Supermodel Bella Hadid posted pictures from a pro-Palestinian protest that ended up featuring a man who has been charged with beating a Jewish man.
Hadid attended a May 16 Brooklyn rally protesting the Israel-Hamas crisis, taking photos she later displayed on her Instagram page. One of which featured Waseem Awawdeh, 23, sitting on a truck with other protesters.
“The way my heart feels … To be around this many beautiful, smart, respectful, loving, kind, and generous Palestinians all in one place… it feels whole! We are a rare breed!!” She wrote.
Four days later, Awawdeh was arrested for attacking a Jewish man without provocation in Times Square. Joseph Borgen, 29, was reportedly walking down the street when he was jumped by Awawdeh and three other men who punched, kicked, beat him with crutches, and pepper-sprayed him on camera.
“I felt a liquid being poured on my face and at first I thought I was getting urinated on, but it tuned out I was getting maced and pepper-sprayed. My face was on fire. That pain was worse than the concussion and all this other stuff that followed,” Borgen said of the horrific attack.
Awawdeh, who was held on $10,000 bail, expressed no remorse according to a prosecutor at his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court. “If I could do it again, I would do it again. I have no problem doing it again,” he reportedly said.
Hadid removed the photos from her Instagram feed after StopAntiSemitism.org identified Awawdeh in her posts. After she removed the pictures, the organization tweeted: “@bellahadid you can delete/archive all the photos you want of your affiliation with Palestinian men that assault Jews in NYC but the internet is forever.”
