The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), headed by America’s top doc Anthony Fauci, granted researchers nearly half a million in taxpayer funds to infect and euthanize a group of beagles to test an experimental drug.
According to a government watchdog group White Coat Waste Project (WCW), the NIAID gave researchers at the University of Georgia $424,455 to conduct abusive experiments on 28 beagles in September 2020.
The dogs were to be infected with flies that carry a disease-causing parasite that can also affect humans, allowed to develop infections for three months, then injected with an experimental compound, and eventually euthanized for blood collection.
The study began on Nov. 12, 2020 and is scheduled to be completed in January 2022, but the beagles were set to be euthanized 196 days after the start of the study, so they were likely put down in June.
Reports discovered by WCW stated that the pups were “vocalizing in pain” after being injected with the drug. WCW vice president of advocacy Justin Goodman called the experiment abusive and “unnecessary.”
“It’s not just Wuhan,” Goodman said. “Fauci’s budget has ballooned to over $6 billion in taxpayer funding annually, at least half of which is being wasted on more questionable animal experimentation like these deadly and unnecessary beagle tests and other maximum pain experiments.”
“Fauci needs to be held accountable for this staggering waste and abuse overseas and right here at home,” he continued. “Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay.”
