Jamie Lee Curtis Admits One Of Her Kids Is Transgender

“Halloween” franchise star Jamie Lee Curtis revealed her youngest child is transgender.

In a recent interview, Curtis said that she and her husband Christopher Guest “have watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby.” 

The “Freaky Friday” lead said the transition has helped her shed the “old idea” that gender is fixed and has learned that life is a “constant metamorphosis.” 

Ruby, 25, formerly Thomas, works as a computer gaming editor and is engaged to be married next year in a ceremony that Curtis will officiate, while older sister Annie, 34, is a married dance instructor. Guest and Curtis have no grandchildren, “but I do hope to” she said. 

The “Knives Out” actress also discussed her 22 years of sobriety that was prompted by a December 1998 vacation, when she “washed down a handful of Vicodin tablets with a glass of wine,” a habit that stemmed from plastic surgery years prior, and a friend on the trip told her “You’re not Jamie,” as she waited for “that lovely opiate hit.” 

She entered rehab in February 1999 and has been free of drugs and alcohol since. Curtis noted that if she hadn’t kicked her addiction she would be “dead for sure,” and that she views her new identity as “just a sober person — flawed, contradictory, broken and redeemed.”

Curtis has recently launched a podcast based on a script for a television series she adapted to the format during the pandemic due to production shutdowns. “Letters From Camp” is deliberately set in 2005, before social media reaped havoc on society, and stars Curtis and Jake Gyllenhaal.

“I think social media is poison for young people,” she said of the platforms she abhors, though she has profiles on the major three. “They don’t know yet how to discern what’s real and what’s fake, what is kind and what is mean. We get lost in this desire for followers. Followers? The word is grotesque!”
