Pro-wrestler-turned-actor John Cena issued an apology to China this week for saying Taiwan is a country, and Fox News host Dana Perino thinks his groveling is “pitiful.”
Cena was promoting his upcoming “Fast and Furious” franchise film to Taiwanese broadcaster earlier in May when sparked China’s ire by saying: “Taiwan is the first country that can watch ‘F9.’”
China considers Taiwan to be a self-governing island state of the People’s Republic, not an independent country. As not to alienate the film industry’s largest international market, Cena took to the country’s biggest social media platform, Weibo, to walk back his comment.
“Hi China, I’m John Cena. I’m in the middle of ‘Fast and Furious 9’ promotions. I’m doing a lot of interviews. I made a mistake in one of my interviews,” he said on Tuesday.
“I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, very important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologize, I apologize, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you,” he concluded in Mandarin.

Fox News’ “The Five” dissected the apology on the Tuesday show. “Cena says he’s sorry about his mistake and that he really loves and respects China. So, Greg, did a wrestling star just get body-slammed by China?” co-host Juan Williams questioned.
Greg Gutfeld called Cena “cowardly and despicable” for bending to the totalitarian regime. When Williams pointed out that China could refuse to release “F9” and cost the studio hundreds of millions, co-host Perino scoffed. “I think they should’ve thought of that before and I think this is pitiful and it’s not attractive, let me tell you.”
“Being bold is attractive, and when he’s basically doing is groveling and the thing that people like Cena need to understand, do you know what the Chinese then do with a video like that? They use it as absolute propaganda,” she concluded.

So Cena is a coward. Let China refuse to release the movie. China isn’t the only country where the movie can be shown. How cowardly we Americans are, that we sell out freedom and truth for a buck.
