Diane von Furstenberg on Trump Presidency: Let’s Focus on ‘Creating Beauty’

Designer and fashion industry leader Diane von Furstenberg issued a “post election message” to the Council of Fashion Designers of America, telling industry insiders to “help” by “creating beauty, optimism and happiness.”

In the email to its members sent on Monday — which was obtained by Page Six — von Furstenberg, who is the president of the trade organization, wrote: “Dear Fellow Designers, Fashion is a reflection of the time, so how can we help on the eve of this new era?”

The designer — who, along with husband Barry Diller, was a major supporter of President-elect Donald Trump‘s rival, Hillary Clinton — added, “First, we must believe in ourselves and in our work. We must believe in the values of tolerance and inclusiveness that are the fabric of our country. We must believe we can make a difference and use our influence by creating beauty, optimism and happiness. More than ever, we must embrace diversity, be open minded, be generous and have compassion.”

Last year, Diller said he would “move out of the country or join the resistance” if Trump were to win.
