Best known for his portrayal of drill sergeant Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, R. Lee Ermey passed away on April 15, age 74. Ermey served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, which added a great deal of authenticity to his portrayal.
