MTV Uses Major Awards Show to Slam Trump

Sunday night at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards became political when attendees heard rapper YG’s song “FDT” (Fuck [President] Donald Trump) played inside the arena.

It didn’t happen during the part of the show that was broadcast, but during the commercial break at the annual music award show held in Inglewood, California. Rapper YG–whose real name is Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson–retweeted several journalist who caught the off-camera moment.

It was the only time the president’s name was mentioned at the ceremony. However, host Katy Perry and outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter made comments about the state of things in the world in her opening monologue saying, that “The World Is On Fire.” Later, she mentioned that voting for the “Best New Artist” category was the only “election where the popular vote actually matters.”
