All the Details on Ivanka Trump’s Brand New Job

For the first time since she stepped down from her role as the CEO of her eponymous apparel, shoes and accessories label, Ivanka Trump has a new formal title. (Well, in addition to first daughter.)

Following last week’s news that she received her own office in the West Wing, Ivanka has been named an official government employee, serving as an unpaid adviser with the official title of assistant to the president, according to The New York Times. The title upgrade came after her “informal adviser” role was challenged by critics who called the position unethical because it allowed her to avoid some rules and disclosures.

“I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the president in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules, and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees,” said Ivanka Wednesday in a statement.

She added that she will work with the White House counsel as well as her personal counsel to address the “unprecedented nature” of her role. Ivanka’s lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, added, “She will file the financial disclosure forms required of federal employees and be bound by the same ethics rules that she had planned to comply with voluntarily.”
