Ex-NFL star Michael Strahan will be blasting into space on Jeff Bezos’ next Blue Origins flight on Dec. 9. He will follow in “Star Trek” captain William Shatner’s footsteps, and become the second celebrity to reach for the stars.

“Blue Origin, they approached me and they asked if I wanted to be a crewmember, and without hesitation I said yes,” Strahan said about the company’s third flight. He covered the first launch for “Good Morning America,” which he cited as inspiration for taking the giant leap.

“I think being there at the first launch, it really was mind-blowing,” he remarked. “Innovators have been risk-takers. The Wright Brothers – how would we live without a plane now? We don’t think about things like that, and I believe that this is a way of being innovative, creative pioneers in aviation, now space travel.”

“It’s gonna take a while, but I do believe that it’s gonna bring a lot of technological breakthroughs and also innovation to us here on Earth,” Strahan continued. “I just wanted to be a part of it.”

The women of “The View” are perplexed why he or any other person would be willing to risk their lives to rocket into the great beyond.

“I don’t think it’s without risk. Second of all, I mean, you know you get into a plane because you have to necessarily travel. You get into a car, because you gotta travel,” said cohost Sunny Hostin. “But like, what’s the purpose [of getting in a rocket]? Are you doing some sort of science research or something? No. I don’t like it! What’s the purpose?”

She doesn’t understand how someone of Strahan’s stature could fit into the ship. “He’s a big dude!” Hostin noted. “Michael’s, like, what, 6’ 3”, 6’ 4”? Why’s he getting in some little spaceship?”

Cohost Joy Behar concurred that she plans to keep her feet planted firmly on the ground, while Whoopi Goldberg implied she might consider a trip if it was free.

“Listen, you know and we know that he’s gonna have a great time,” Goldberg commented. “This is something he wants to do and I say go ahead, Michael! Have a great time without us! We’ll see you when you get back!”
