Running
Oprah dubbed “America’s Doctor,” television host Dr. Mehmet Oz, announced his plans to enter Pennsylvania’s Republican primary in a bid to replace retiring Republican Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey.
“I’m running for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania because America needs a Conservative Republican to cure what’s wrong with Washington. I’m a world-class surgeon, fighter, and health care advocate stepping forward to cure our country’s ills,” the cardiothoracic surgeon wrote on Twitter.
In a video that accompanied his Tuesday tweet, Dr. Oz declared that “Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will put America first, one who can reignite our divine spark, bravely fight for freedom, and tell it like it is.”
He cited the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as his inspiration to run for office. “COVID has shown us that our system is broken,” he remarked. “We lost too many lives, too many jobs, and too many opportunities because Washington got it wrong. They took away our freedom without making us safer, and tried to kill our spirit and our dignity.”

Caught On Tape
Embattled “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett had a bad day at court, when prosecutors revealed in opening arguments that they have surveillance video showing him performing a “dry run” of his alleged attack the day before it happened.
Smollett claimed that he was attacked in January 2019 by racist, homophobic thugs, who beat him and tied a noose around his neck. The actor is on trial for allegedly staging the incident after producers didn’t take the hate mail he received seriously enough for his liking.
Prosecutors claim the actor hired brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, who he worked with on “Empire” to attack him. The siblings told investigators that they were paid $3,500 to fake the attack and an additional $100 to gather supplies.
“He told them to use a rope to make it look like a hate crime,” said Special prosecutor Dan Webb. “When he reported the fake hate crime that was a real crime.”
He is being tried for felony disorderly conduct, which carries a prison sentence of up to three years.
Trial
Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime pilot, Lawrence Paul Visoski Jr. testified that he flew former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, along with Prince Andrew, actors Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker, and Senators George Mitchell and John Glenn, at the trial of Epstien’s nefarious madam Ghislaine Maxwell.
“Former President Bill Clinton flew on some of the flights?” Maxwell’s defense attorney asked. “Yes,” Visoski said under oath. He added that Trump flew on the plane “more than once,” but was unable to recall if his family was on board at the time.
He also claimed that Maxwell was Epstien’s “Number 2,” but said he never witnessed any unaccompanied underage girls on the flights.
Dedication Drama
Dave Chappelle continues to stir up controversy, this time with students of his high school alma mater, who objected to a theater being named after the comedian at the school, in the wake of the trangender backlash from his Netflix special, “The Closer.”
Chappelle took to Instagram to challenge his supporters and critics alike to donate to the school and note if they were in favor or against naming the theater after him. Whichever faction raises more cash for the school will determine if he accepts the honor or not.
“Talk is cheap (Unless I do it),” he wrote in the post. “If you object to my receiving this honor, I urge you to donate to the school, noting your objection. If you are in favor of the theater being named, ‘Chappelle,’ I urge you to donate to the school, noting your approval.”
Chappelle said he would “gladly step aside” if his critics outspend his supporters. “If not, I will happily attend the naming ceremony. And if you don’t care enough to donate… please shut the f— up, forever,” the Instagram message concluded.
Despite the comedian’s fundraising contest, the school said they would name the theater after him regardless of the outcome.
“While we appreciate Dave’s impromptu and spirited fundraising initiative, we stand behind our decision to honor the wishes of our co-founder, the late Peggy Cooper Cafritz, to name the theatre after Chappelle,” the Duke Ellington School of the Arts said in a statement.
“All donations will go towards arts programming and every donor, irrespective of their support or opposition to the theater naming, will receive an official thank you from our team.”
