Conservative actor Dennis Quaid took to Instagram on Saturday to defend his new role in the President’s coronavirus awareness campaign, “no good deed goes unpoliticized.”
Quaid received criticism from fans after news of his inclusion in the $300 million-dollar campaign, which is targeted to launch prior to the Presidential Election, is reportedly being investigated by Democrats for requisitioning funds previously appropriated to the CDC.
On Saturday night The Day After Tomorrow star took to social media to defend his participation and clarify that his interview was unpaid.
‘I have to say that right now I am feeling some outrage and a lot of disappointment about a PSA, an interview, that I did, with Dr. Anthony Fauci a few weeks ago,” Quaid explained.
He said according to “cancel culture media,” misinformation is being spread that he was “paid handsomely” with funds that were redirected from the CDC, to make a campaign endorsement video for the President. “Nothing can be further from the truth.”
According to the 66-year-old actor, the ad campaign’s actual purpose is to raise COVID-19 awareness and “what we can still do to prevent lives being lost by this terrible, terrible virus.”
He explained that he spoke to Dr. Fauci about the campaign prior to filming, “it was not to be political, as the virus is not political.” Quaid continued, “I was not paid one penny for doing this interview and neither was Dr. Anthony Fauci.”
Quaid has previously spoken favorably about how the President has handled the pandemic. “I think Trump, no matter what anybody thinks of him, is doing a good job at trying to get these states—and all of the American people—what they need, and also trying to hold our economy together and be prepared for when this is all over.”
The ad campaign is expected to consist of videos from administration officials and celebrities. Singer CeCe Winans has already filmed a segment, Dr. Mehmet Oz and Garth Brooks are being pursued as celebrity contributors.
In response to the critical backlash, Quaid commented on his own post. “No good deed goes unpoliticized.”
