Ben Savage, known for his role in the 90s sitcom “Boy Meets World,” has announced his bid to replace Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California, in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Savage paperwork to run as a Democrat in January and made the official announcement in an Instagram post on Monday. In the post, he expressed his commitment to moving the country forward and restoring faith in government as the representative of California’s 30th Congressional District, as Schiff is largely viewed as a crooked candidate who has disgraced his elected position.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Savage wrote:

“Together, we can do better. I am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community,”

“I firmly believe in standing up for what is right, ensuring equality and expanding opportunities for all.”

“I’m running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues. And it’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

Despite several other candidates joining the race after Schiff’s announcement to run for Senate, Savage’s acting career gives him an advantage in national name recognition. This is not his first time running for office, as he previously ran for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council in 2022 but was unsuccessful.

The district includes Los Angeles suburbs, including Savage’s hometown of West Hollywood, Burbank, parts of Pasadena, and more. He interned for then-U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., while studying political science at Stanford in 2003, and he expressed that he believed the internship would be a fun experience and emphasized the importance of networking in D.C.
