Disney Backtracks On Dwarves After Peter Dinklage Pans ‘Backwards’ remake of ‘Snow White’

“Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage is outraged that “progressive” Disney is making a “backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.” 

“There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on. Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” he remarked. “Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.” 

Dinklage told “WTF Podcast” host Marc Maron that he was shocked to hear about the reboot, and is upset his activism relating to dwarfism has apparently not had enough impact on the film industry.

“You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that f–king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f–k are you doing, man?” He questioned.

“Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box?” Dinklage ranted. “I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”  

Disney released a statement on Tuesday following the “Cyrano” actor’s complaints. “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.” 

The film, which stars “West Side Story’s” Rachel Zegler as Snow White, and “Red Notice” lead Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, will reportedly use “magical creatures” as stand ins for the dwarfs.  

Dinklage said he was “all in,” if the studio told “the story of Snow White with the most f–ked up, cool, or progressive spin.” If that’s the case, he said, “Let’s do it.”
