Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had some harsh words for lawmakers breaking their own pandemic policies.
On a Tuesday episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers called out Governor Gavin Newsom for famously dining out at a packed party without a mask at the ultra-exclusive French Laundry while California residents were ordered to hunker down and restaurants were forced to close.
“Don’t eat out at a restaurant unless you’re wearing a mask and separate ‘oh, here’s a picture of the governor of California violating those rules. Oh, public schools are closed but I can send my kids to a private school in person.’ It’s like, I mean, for us to count on the government to help us out is becoming a joke at this point,” Rodgers told McAfee.
The star quarterback recently donated 500k to the Barstool fund, created by Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports to help keep small businesses afloat during restrictive pandemic shutdowns.
“It’s just an amazing deal what they’re doing. I mean, to be able to not only change people’s lives and livelihoods, but to do it in such a timely fashion… I mean the money is going out [in] 24 to 72 hours,” Rodgers gushed. “I think there was just such a need, if you look around [at] our environment today, it’s not like the government is really helping out anybody in a timely fashion.”
He praised the Barstool fund for providing significant funds to help struggling people.
“It took forever to figure out how to give six hundred dollar checks away and then may or may not get $2000 at this point, that’s not life-changing money. What Dave and his folks are doing with the Barstool fund is life-changing money it’s sustainability for these people.”
Rodgers criticized the government’s inaction and criticized the double standard politicians live by while everyday Americans suffer their draconian policies.
“I think that’s the thing that you gravitate towards the most, is just not having reliance on the government to help you out. Because obviously [they’ve] shown that’s not gonna be the way they’re gonna do it,” he commented. “They’re not even following their own rules. How many people have gotten caught? Don’t travel, don’t leave the state… Oh, here’s so-and-so on a vacation, don’t go get your haircut, oh, here’s so-and-so at a salon.”
"This is people helping people, this is money going directly to save business. A lot of these have been in business for 10, 20, 30, 50, 95 years 1 of them.
