US Truckers planning to organize a protest against vaccine mandates, similar to their Canadian counterparts, had their “Convoy to DC 2022” page taken down by Facebook for violating policies around QAnon.
The page, where truckers were coordinating a coast-to-coast pilgrimage from California to Washington, D.C., was removed from the platform on Wednesday in what organizer Jeremy Johnson classified as “censorship at its finest.”
“They like to silence people that speak the truth,” he told Fox News. The company also took down his personal account and the account of trucker Mike Landis. Facebook claims they ”have removed this group for repeatedly violating our policies around QAnon.”
Brian Brase, co-organizer of the group that intends to end vaccine mandates through peaceful protest, contests Facebook’s classification of the page.
“I have to laugh about that. Can they contact me or something? Can we talk? That’s not true,” he told the network. “They actually had offered the administrators to remove content and then request to review again. They didn’t even give that option.
“They literally wiped Mike Landis and Jeremy completely out of Facebook,” Brase continued. “They don’t even have a profile anymore, so how are you supposed to request a review or remove anything?”
This isn’t Big Tech’s first assault on the movement, GoFundMe shut down Canadian trucker’s “Freedom Convoy 2022” fundraiser and is holding the $8 million already raised for review.
Thousands of truckers gathered in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, in protest of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
“There is not a right to shut down our democracy, our democratic processes,” Trudeau complained as he went into hiding to avoid protesters.
The US trucker’s version of the “Freedom Convoy” is slated for March 1. “Up in Canada we stood up to tyrants and came together at the Capitol,” their GoFundMe page states.
“We want American truckers to be able to reach DC as well … Mandates have been proven to only hurt people, destroy businesses and people’s lives. We need to stand together to make sure our freedoms are maintained.”
