Barbra Streisand demands Barack Obama fill the Supreme Court vacancy and bypass the Senate before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
On Monday, the 74-year-old actress and singer tweeted a petition on her website calling for the president to ignore the Senate’s refusal to fill the empty seat on the court left by Justice Antonin Scalia. Streisand wants Justice Judge Merrick Garland appointed for the spot before Trump’s presidency can begin.
“If you are concerned about the Supreme Court, please consider going to this website and signing a petition asking President Obama to “appoint” Merrick Garland,” Streisand wrote. “According to the Washington Post, he has the power to do this since Congress has refused to vote, and apparently that can be considered a waiver of its rights to advise and consent. If there are 100,000 signatures, the White House must give this its consideration.”
