Disney-owned ESPN is preparing to make significant job cuts, affecting approximately 20 on-air personalities in a major restructuring effort. Among the notable figures being let go are Jeff Van Gundy, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson, Suzy Kolber, and Jalen Rose.

In addition to the aforementioned personalities, ESPN has reportedly laid off other individuals in this recent round of layoffs. This includes Matt Hasselbeck, a former NFL quarterback and NFL Countdown analyst, Todd McShay, an NFL draft expert, LaPhonso Ellis, a college basketball analyst, Ashley Brewer, a SportsCenter anchor, Jason Fitz, a radio host, Jordan Cornette, a host, and Joon Lee, a baseball writer.

These layoffs, aimed at saving millions of dollars, follow an internal memo circulated among ESPN employees, which was later obtained by The Post. This marks the third wave of layoffs at ESPN, aligning with the directives from Disney, the parent company, which had previously announced plans to cut around 7,000 jobs. By letting go of high-earning employees, ESPN aims to protect more staff working behind the scenes.

Interestingly, while some high-profile stars are facing layoffs, ESPN has recently signed an $85 million deal with Pat McAfee, the host of a highly successful sports podcast. Network executives view this investment as a profitable venture from the start, given McAfee’s growing popularity. This move comes at a time when traditional sports television is experiencing a rapid decline with no apparent path to recovery. Going forward, ESPN plans to be more cautious in contract negotiations, avoiding extravagant deals.
