NFL star running back Adrian Peterson was arrested for felony domestic violence at the Los Angeles International Airport after getting into a physical altercation with his wife on a flight.

The couple’s fight caused the plane they were set to jet off to Houston on to return to the gate after taxiing on the runway, and Peterson was removed from the aircraft and arrested. His wife of eight years, Ashley Brown, remained on the plane and continued on to Texas.

Peterson admitted to the argument, but said the incident was “blown out of proportion” and that he doesn’t “hit women” after being released from police custody.

“I was literally mind-blown that they took me to jail,” the 17 season NFL veteran remarked. “They were like, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. Peterson, but because she had a scratch on her finger, (in) the state of California, we have to take you in.”

Peterson said he was astonished that he was taken into custody. “I sit there and watch the plane pull back and take off and I’m just like, ‘Wow! I cannot believe this is happening right now. I’m going to jail, and I literally didn’t do anything.’ It’s blown out of proportion.”

He claimed the “gist” of the situation was far less dramatic than what has been reported. “I ended up grabbing her hand and taking her ring off her finger. She didn’t press any charges. The state of California pressed charges because there was a scratch on her hand. “

“Literally that’s why I went to jail, because the ring left a scratch on her finger. We just had a disagreement,” he remarked. “I know the headlines: Domestic violence. You’d think I beat her up or something. It was nothing like that.”

Peterson has played for seven NFL teams since forgoing his senior year of college to enter into the 2007 Draft and being selected by the Minnesota Vikings as a first round pick in 2007.

He was suspended by the league in 2014 for using a tree branch to beat his then four-year-old son and did not serve any jail time after pleading no contest to reckless assault charge.

“Only thing I will say is it looks horrible because Adrian Peterson arrested for domestic violence,” Peterson commented. “I don’t hit women. It’s not that type of situation and it just looks bad. I’ll deal with it and God willing get the charges dropped and move on.”

You have to be beyond a model citizen once you’ve been in the system. Something that would not be an issue for someone else is going to get you popped from now on. Run Forest, I mean, Adrian, RUN! You used to be really good at that.
