Liberal “Hocus Pocus” witch Bette Midler didn’t take kindly to the crack that was aimed at her by West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s bulldog.
Justice called out Midler in the conclusion of his State of the State address last week, by holding up his prized bulldog Babydog’s rear end stating that “Babydog tells Bette Midler and all those out there, kiss her hiney.”
The “Beaches” star predictably weaponized Twitter with her own jab at Justice. She retweeted an image of the Governor and his dog, which was captioned: “Here we can see a dog’s a–hole. Right next to it is the butt of Jim Justice’s dog.”
In a follow-up, she shared an image that showed West Virginia ranked as 47th overall in the nation in categories that included the economy, infrastructure, health care, and more.
“BTW, here are the state rankings of all the areas and agencies for which the so-called “Governor” of WVA, #JimJustice is responsible,” she wrote. “Judging from these rankings, I’d say his dog’s ass would make a better Governor than him!”
Many West Virginians were upset about the repeated disparaging of their home state.” His rankings will be higher than WV views on your new Hocus Pocus movie. I won’t be watching it and I know a lot of people from WV agree,” wrote one commenter. “Shame on you for saying bad things about my home state. I was a fan, but I’m not anymore!”
Tweeting about West Virginia is what got Midler on Justice’s radar in the first place. She insulted the state’s population while mocking Sen. Joe Manchin in December.
“What #JoeManchin, who represents a population smaller than Brooklyn, has done to the rest of America, who wants to move forward, not backward, like his state, is horrible. He sold us out. He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out,” Midler tweeted.
“Bette, it’s cruel, and it’s really, really unfair. You know, we’ve had a struggle, just like anybody’s had a struggle, but just think about what we’ve done,” Justice responded at the time. “We have the very best people, and I would welcome you to come and see these people.”
Midler later walked back her comment about West Virginians, but not Manchin. “I apologize to the good people of WVA for my last outburst. I’m just seeing red; #JoeManchin and his whole family are a criminal enterprise. Is he really the best WV has to offer its own citizens? Surely there’s someone there who has the state’s interests at heart, not his own!”
