Country Singer Billy Ray Cyrus took to Twitter to wish the First Lady a speedy recovery from her struggle with COVID-19, Twitter reacted with contempt.
“Hope you are feeling better @FLOTUS. This photo was almost exactly a year ago. Thank you again for the compassion and time you shared with Channing’s Dad and his brother.”
Cyrus became involved with Melania’s Be Best anti-bullying campaign last year when he joined the First Lady at the White House to meet with the family of Channing Smith, a teenager that committed suicide.
Smith killed himself in September 2019 after his Tennessee high school classmates leaked intimate messages between Channing and another boy from school.
Cyrus commemorated their November 2019 sit down with Smith’s family with a photo taken at the White House and a post that read: “What an honor to sit w/The First Lady at the White House. @FLOTUS Your sincerity was truly inspiring.” He continued, “You/your team were so engaged to Channing’s grieving father & brother & brought ideas/strategy to make the world a safer better place for the youth in America”

Cyrus was attacked by liberal commenters online in reaction to his post. One replied, “this is why ur daughters more successful than u.”
Another proclaimed, “Lil Nas gave you a career.” While an “Achy Breaky Heart” fan reminded the commenter that “Billy Ray was storming the charts before Lil Nas was in diapers.”
A final user tweeted, “The culture is cancelling you for good.”
