Political satirist John Stewart blasted Republican lawmakers for voting down the veteran healthcare expansion bill on Thursday.
“Ain’t this a b—h?” Stewart spat at a press conference near the Capitol. “America’s heroes, who fought in our wars, outside sweatin’ their a–es off, with oxygen, battling all kinds of ailments, while these mother f–kers sit in the air conditioning, walled off from any of it.”
“They don’t have to hear it, they don’t have to see it, they don’t have to understand that these are human beings,” he continued. “These aren’t heroes, these are men and women … that we just let stand outside in the heat, while they can’t breathe.”
The Honoring Our PACT Act planned to expand healthcare benefits for the military veterans and first responders who suffer from ailments stemming from exposure to toxic chemicals and burn pits during their service.
The legislation passed in the House with an 84-14 vote earlier in July, but was shot down by the Senate when it was two votes shy of the 60 required on Thursday.
Stewart slammed Senator Rick Scott (R-FLA), for a tweet that detailed how he made care packages for military members with the USO, went after Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), for lying to a war veteran about which way he was voting, and called Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA), a “f–king coward” for refusing to meet with veteran’s groups.
“He lied to him, because Mitch McConnel yesterday, lied. I’m used to the lies, I’m used to the hypocrisy,” Stewart went on. “I’m used to the cowardice, I’ve been here a long time. The senate’s where accountability goes to die. These people don’t care.”
Stewart has been a vocal advocate for veterans and first responders for years. He went in front of Congress to oppose limits to 9/11 first responder payouts in 2019, and again in 2020 to lobby for the permanency of the Victims Compensation Fund.
“This is an embarrassment to the Senate, to the country, to the founders, and all that they profess to hold dear,” the former “Daily Show” host concluded. “And if this is America First, then America is f–ked.”

Stewart is an idiot. Look at the back story about this bill. It is a typical democrat legislative effort designed to hoodwink morons (like Stewart). None of those GOP senators are against the portion of the bill that helps veterans. It’s the stupid spending parts of the bill that have nothing to do with helping veterans. The democrats purposely mix good legislation with their pet money bombs in order to have pundits like the moron Stewart do exactly what he did. So the useful idiots in the electorate never get the true story or the rationale behind what Cruz and others oppose in this stink bomb bill.
