Former President Donald Trump came out guns ablazing against Meghan Markle for throwing her royal title around to interfere in US politics and “disrespecting the Queen” of England.
“She is trying to do things that I think are very inappropriate,” Trump commented about Markle lobbying Congress members to advocate for paid family leave while using her royal title.
“Paid leave should be a national right, rather than a patchwork option limited to those whose employers have policies in place, or those who live in one of the few states where a leave program exists,” she wrote in an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“If we’re going to create a new era of family first policies, let’s make sure that includes a strong paid leave program for every American that’s guaranteed, accessible, and encouraged without stigma or penalty.”
Markle also personally called several senators, including Republican Susan Collins, to advocate for its inclusion in the massive spending bill.
“I was happy to talk with her. But I’m more interested in what the people of Maine are telling me about it,” Collins said of the call. “Much to my surprise, she called me on my private line and she introduced herself as the Duchess of Sussex, which is kind of ironic.”
In a new interview which recently aired on the UK’s GB News, Trump slammed both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for damage he believes they have done to the monarchy.
“I’m not a fan of hers. I wasn’t from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly and I think some day he will regret it,” Trump told former politician Nigel Farage. “I think Harry’s been used and been used terribly. I think it’s ruined his relationship with his family, and it hurts the Queen.”
He blames Markle herself for causing the 95-year-old monarch pain. “I think she’s been very disrespectful to the Queen, who’s such a great woman, such a great person, a historic person,” he added. “I think she’s very disrespectful to the Royal Family and most importantly to the Queen.”
