When Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem at President Joe Biden’s Inauguration, fans couldn’t help but notice that her gown looked eerily similar to outfits worn in the dystopian post-apocalyptic movie series “The Hunger Games.”
Lady Gaga wore a custom red and blue Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown by Daniel Roseberry that featured a flowing red skirt and an oversized gold bird brooch. The dramatic look seemed straight out of the movie franchise that chillingly forced children to fight to the death.

In the films, a nation ruled by elites in the Capitol forces the country’s twelve districts to offer up two of their children for an annual televised battle that sees the tributes pick each other off until there’s only one survivor, as a punishment for a failed uprising.
Fans noted that the gold bird brooch Gaga wore appeared to be a riff on a pin the lead character Katniss wore throughout the series, which was viewed as mockery of the Capitol and a symbol of the rebellion.

The singer tweeted a statement that the gold bird was “a dove carrying an olive branch,” to promote unity.

Gaga tweeted that the singing the National Anthem had “great meaning” to her, and her intention was to “acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land.”
The popstar, who has expressed herself with bold fashion throughout her career, was seemingly out to make a political statement about the state of the union with her D.C. outfits.
A day prior she was photographed wearing a look similar to one Princess Leia wore in “Star Wars.” Another snap of Gaga greeting National Guard soldiers prompted fans to insert her image into scenes from the film.
