Comedian and former ‘Chappelle Show’ actor Paul Mooney has now passed away at the age of 79.
As The New York Post reports:
Mooney passed away Wednesday morning in Oakland, California, his daughter Spring Mooney confirmed on Twitter. The cause of death was a heart attack, according to reports.
“Give me a moment,” Spring said in the emotional tweet. “My best friend just died and my world is forever SHOOK !!! I really can’t put into words right now my feelings .. know that I LOVE THIS MAN AND I AM BROKEN.”
Mooney was best known for playing Sam Cooke opposite Oscar nominee Gary Busey in 1978’s “The Buddy Holly Story.” He also played Junebug in Spike Lee’s acclaimed 2000 comedy “Bamboozled.”
In 2004, Mooney landed a high-profile role — playing Negrodamus — in a couple of skits on close friend and comic Dave Chappelle’s smash hit “Chappelle’s Show.”
Friends and fans shared their messages of grief and support on social media after news of the comedian’s death broke on Wednesday.

I’m so sorry to the family for their loss. There are no words that would even make the loss even a little bit so I’m not going to try When I list my mom years ago it felt like I lost my best friend and hated when anyone tried to make me feel better. So I wanted you to know how I loved watching him him. Great comedian who just made you laugh even when having a crappy day. I’m glad that I lived in this generation so I got to see so many freaking hilarious comedians!!
